'Everything' fest to rock tomorrow in the Heights

A half-mile line of musical acts, vendors and other attractions will take over Central Avenue in the Jersey City Heights tomorrow for the Second Annual Everything Jersey City Festival.

The festival, located between Hutton and Congress streets, is free to the public and will take place between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., said Michael Yun, owner of Garden State News and president of the Central Avenue Special Improvement District.

The event will feature Super slides, a petting zoo, street vendors, four stages with musical acts, and deejays.

Last year's festival attracted around 12,000 people and even more people are expected this year, Yun said.

A major goal of the group is to promote local businesses in and around the Heights. Volunteers will be handing out 10,000 gift certificates good for 50 percent off meals at local restaurants, and 22 businesses will have sales on select merchandise Saturday.

Local businesses, Jersey City and Hudson County have raised $100,000 for the event, Yun said.

"The rest of the people in New Jersey look down on Jersey City. That's the kind of reputation we have. More and more we change our reputation and become the place to work and dine and shop," Yun said.
